(Sacramento, CA) Earlier today, Ron Herrera, Vice President of International Brotherhood of Teamsters’ Waste & Recycling Division, alongside Joint Council 7, hosted a strategy meeting to discuss tackling unfair treatment and worker safety in the current contract negotiations with one of our major industry employers, Republic Services. Locals with representatives in attendance included Local 315 (Martinez), Local 70 (Oakland), Local 386 (Modesto), Local 350 (San Francisco), Local 431 (Fresno), Local 396 (Covina), Local 690 (Spokane, WA), Local 174 (Seattle, WA), and Local 728 (Atlanta, GA).  Representatives spoke on behalf of their locals to share developments in their recently expired contracts and the progress they are on the road towards.

Solid Waste representatives Carlos Borba, Chuck Stiles, and Larry Daughtry analyzed both improvements and hardships in various locals nationwide and discussed strategies that can impact not only California contracts, but also contracts in Memphis, Ohio, and the central region.  Teamsters are planning to reach agreements until the agreements will be acceptable enough for the workers. All locals plan to continue organizing and working together to push for a strong contract.
